WA:Cyclone downgraded

Tropical cyclone Paul has been downgraded to a category four cyclone as it heads to
the south of Cocos Island and very destructive winds are unlikely to be experienced on
the island.

At 9am (WST) Paul was 215km south south-east of Cocos Island and moving west at 12kph.

Maximum wind gusts of 260kph have been recorded near the centre of the cyclone but
will not be felt on the island, where westerly gusts of up to 100kph are expected.

Cocos Island is about 4,000km west of Darwin.
