Fed: Posties strike from Wednesday

CANBERRA, Dec 16 AAP - Postal workers will stop work on Wednesday in a bid to win better
pay and conditions.

The Australia Post employees want a new workplace agreement which protects penalty
shifts, rosters and take-home pay.

They also want improved workplace safety conditions.

They've been locked in an industrial dispute with Australia Post since 2006, with the
most recent round of negotiations breaking down earlier this month.

In protest, the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union on Tuesday confirmed
posties would strike in all states, except South Australia, from Wednesday.

South Australian workers will join the stoppages from Thursday to avoid school students
missing out on Year 12 exam results arriving in the post.

Most strikes are to take place during the next 48 hours, although the union has said
there may be further action on Friday.
